Brakes

Car brakes are essential for safety, allowing you to slow down and stop your vehicle. Here’s a breakdown of how they work and the two main types:

How Car Brakes Work:

  1. Hydraulic System: When you press the brake pedal, it pushes on a piston in the master cylinder. This pressurizes brake fluid, which is a non-compressible liquid that transmits the force throughout the system.

  2. Pressure Distribution: The brake fluid travels through brake lines to each wheel.

  3. Wheel Engagement: At each wheel, the pressurized fluid enters the caliper, which houses one or more pistons. These pistons squeeze the brake pads against the brake rotor (disc) connected to the wheel hub.

  4. Friction: The friction between the brake pads and the rotor is what creates the stopping power. As the pads clamp onto the disc, the friction converts the car’s kinetic energy (motion) into heat energy, slowing down the wheel and ultimately the car.
